“That’s just not right!” – Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer interrupt live Sky Sports interview after wild Leeds game
Morgan Rogers was pretty upset when he missed out on the man-of-the-match award after Chelsea’s big comeback win against Leeds United in the Carabao Cup.
On Wednesday night, Leeds looked like they were going to cause a huge surprise, taking a two-goal lead over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. But thanks to an amazing second half from Xabi Alonso’s team, Leeds ended up losing 6-2, with star summer signing Rogers playing a huge part.
Chelsea were down 1-0 at halftime, but when Alonso brought on Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Pedro Neto, the game completely changed. Palmer quickly scored twice – a penalty at 53 minutes and a neat goal two minutes later – while Rogers helped set up four of Chelsea’s six goals.
So when Palmer was named man of the match, Rogers was shocked and a bit annoyed, leading to a funny chat between the two. Rogers joked, “Mate, I got four assists! Nah, I can’t believe that. He scored a penalty, that’s crazy!” Palmer stayed humble and said, “I started the comeback, but you should’ve had it. Don’t worry.” Rogers replied, “Don’t mention me, I’m just a bystander. That’s criminal.”
Technically, Rogers had three assists according to Opta, but it’s clear he played a key role in Chelsea’s amazing comeback.
When Rogers signed for Chelsea for a record-breaking £117 million, everyone expected him to do well – and he has. In his first five games for Chelsea, in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, he’s scored two goals and helped set up four more.
A big part of his success comes from his close friendship with Palmer, who he’s known since their days in the Manchester City academy and England youth teams. Palmer has also had a great start to the season, bouncing back well after missing out on England’s World Cup squad.
In Chelsea’s five games this summer, Palmer has scored four goals and assisted once, showing why he’s one of the top players in the league.
It’s no surprise that Rogers, Palmer, and teammate Joao Pedro are some of the most popular picks in Fantasy Premier League ahead of their next game against newly promoted Hull City.
