Thomas Tuchel shares England squad with 10 fresh faces after the World Cup.
England manager Thomas Tuchel has picked his 27-man squad for the upcoming Nations League games against Spain, the Czech Republic, and Croatia.
Tuchel has brought back Real Madrid’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who missed out on the World Cup squad.
New faces include Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, and in-form Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. They join a group of 10 players who weren’t part of Tuchel’s final squad back in May.
Jason Steele also makes the squad. He’s been with the team for a while and is one of the three goalkeepers selected, as Dean Henderson is still injured and won’t be back for these matches.
Nine players from the World Cup squad aren’t in this group. Central defenders John Stones and Dan Burn, along with full-backs Djed Spence and Reece James, have been left out. Stones, James, Spence, and midfielder Jordan Henderson are all dealing with injuries.
Arsenal’s Noni Madueke and strikers Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins, who now play in Saudi Arabia, have also been dropped.
England’s Nations League campaign kicks off at Wembley on Saturday, 26 September, against Spain. They then face the Czech Republic in Prague three days later before traveling to Rijeka for a match against Croatia, which will be played behind closed doors except for 100 England travel club members.
Croatia’s fans won’t be allowed to attend due to UEFA sanctions after issues with racism and discrimination during a previous Nations League match against France.
