Tottenham encouraged to sign £350k-a-week Premier League star that Harry Kane really likes
Tottenham Hotspur have had an amazing summer transfer window so far, and with less than three weeks left before the September 1 deadline, Roberto De Zerbi might still add more players to his squad.
After finishing 17th in back-to-back seasons, Spurs fans were eager for some serious ambition this summer, and the club’s recruitment team has definitely delivered.
Instead of taking big risks on unknown players from abroad, Tottenham focused on signing proven Premier League stars. De Zerbi has already brought in six new players.
The club spent a lot on three key signings: Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes, paying a total of £237 million. They also added Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and experienced goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on free transfers.
De Zerbi must be happy with the support he’s got since joining in March, but he still wants two or three more players before the window closes.
Spurs are building a strong attack after improving defense and midfield. Their top priorities are signing a left-sided forward and a striker.
One of their main targets is Manchester City’s creative player Savinho, who has already said he wants to leave City and join Tottenham.
They’ve also been linked with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, but former Spurs player Jamie O’Hara thinks the club should aim higher and try to sign Manchester City forward Marcus Rashford.
“I like Savinho. He’s shown moments of great talent, even if things haven’t fully clicked for him at Man City,” O’Hara told Sky Sports.
“I also like Gakpo, though he needs a few chances to score. He has something special, and I wouldn’t mind him at all.
“But honestly, why don’t we go for Marcus Rashford? I think Spurs should just ask, ‘How much do you want for him?’ I know his wages are high at £350,000 a week, so maybe we can’t afford that, but he’s an amazing player.
“If he comes with something to prove, he can still be one of the best.”
Rashford has been linked with leaving Manchester United after a tough 18 months, with several Premier League clubs interested. He’d prefer to move on, but his high wages make it hard for clubs to sign him permanently.
Last season, he was loaned to Barcelona where he performed really well, helping him earn a spot in England’s World Cup squad. He even scored and assisted for England during the tournament in North America.
With 89 goals in 297 Premier League games, Rashford will want to get back to his best next season. Tottenham legend Harry Kane has always spoken highly of him.
“Marcus is a great player,” Kane said ahead of England’s Euro 2020 campaign. “We’ve played a lot together, and you can see his quality with the ball, his finishing, and his all-around game. He’s a top player.”
