Former Tottenham striker Troy Parrott gave Jose Mourinho his first loss since coming back to Real Madrid by scoring his first goal for Real Betis in a 1-0 win. Parrott joined Betis this summer from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar for about €20 million.

He came through Spurs’ academy but only played four times for the North London team before moving on in 2024. At AZ, Parrott was impressive, scoring 51 goals in 94 games, including 10 goals in 15 Conference League matches last season.

He almost joined newly-relegated West Ham, but the deal fell through after the club wouldn’t meet AZ’s asking price. Now, West Ham might be wishing they had signed him, as Parrott scored the winning goal for Betis in a big win.

In the 81st minute, with the game still 0-0, Betis midfielder Nelson Deossa headed a corner that forced a great save from Real Madrid’s keeper Thibaut Courtois. Parrott was right there to score from the rebound, sending the home fans at Benito Villamarin Stadium into celebrations.

Later, Real Madrid’s new player Carlos Espi had a bicycle kick goal ruled out at the 87th minute. Real then won a penalty in stoppage time, but Kylian Mbappe missed the shot, leaving Real without a point.

Real Madrid suffered their first loss of the La Liga season and their first since Mourinho returned this summer. More updates to come!
