Boxing superstar Tyson Fury has thrown down a challenge to Anthony Joshua, calling him a ‘coward’ as their teams try to iron out the details of their long-awaited big fight.
Fury vs Joshua is set for this year, but plans hit a snag over where the epic bout should take place. Since Joshua accepted Fury’s call back in April, the fight has been talked about as ‘The Battle of Britain,’ with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, wanting it in England—especially at Wembley.
However, Hearn and Joshua clash with Netflix and Turki Alalshikh, who want the fight at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has given Joshua’s team a deadline to finalize a deal in the US.
With Friday’s deadline fast approaching and no venue agreed upon yet, fans are left waiting, and Fury says he’s frustrated. He even took a shot at Joshua personally for not settling on a location.
In an Instagram video, Fury asked, “Joshua, where are you?” and said, “Still no deal done. It’s getting tiring. I’ve been ready to fight anywhere—England, Ireland, Vegas, New York—you name it. I’ve said yes every time, no conditions.”
He added, “Honestly, I feel like you’re scared. I think you don’t want the fight and are just keeping everyone hanging. You’ve had chances to fight me before, but never really wanted to. So, let’s see if you’ll step up finally. We’re both in our late 30s—let’s fight, it’s just boxing.”
Fury even joked about Joshua’s past losses and said, “I’ll definitely hit you, but it’s nothing new.”
Warren’s deadline carries a clear warning that the fight could be off if Joshua’s side doesn’t agree. Fans are eager to see these two British fighters face each other after years of waiting.
If Fury’s confidence is anything to go by, his training in Miami has gone well. A fight between a focused Fury and a rival he clearly wants to face would be a huge event and big news for boxing fans everywhere.
