Tyson Fury’s last opponent had to give up in a strange and rough fight where he was outnumbered 6 to 1.
Mariusz Wach had to stop fighting during a tough and unusual match where he faced six opponents at once, just three weeks after losing to Tyson Fury. Fury had picked the 46-year-old as a warm-up for his planned fight with Anthony Joshua later this year. While nothing is officially set, there’s a basic agreement for the two British heavyweights to fight in November, with the perfect venue still being searched for.
Fury easily beat Wach with a seventh-round stoppage in Pattaya, Thailand. While many are excited about Fury’s next fight, Wach also caught attention when he returned to the ring under strange circumstances over the weekend.
Right after losing to Fury, the Polish veteran took on six fighters called the ‘Gypsy Team’ in a special match organized by Prime MMA. The fight had five-minute rounds inside an MMA cage, and Wach switched to K-1 kickboxing using MMA gloves.
Last year, Wach went viral when he stopped three former MMA fighters in a similar event, but this time, with double the opponents, it was much harder. In the first round, two fighters landed strong punches to his head and body, and the others took turns hitting him, making it tough for Wach to fight back.
By the end of the first round, Wach was clearly hurt, and things didn’t improve. In the second and third rounds, he kept getting hit while being pushed against the cage. He had blood running down his face from cuts and took hard hits to his legs that left them red.
After the third round (out of five planned), the referee quickly stopped the fight to protect Wach from more damage. Even though there were two rounds left, his team decided to pull him out to avoid a worse beating.
It’s sad that 14 years after fighting legends like Wladimir Klitschko, Wach’s career is ending with unusual exhibition fights that don’t show his true talent.
