Victor Wembayana Fired Back with the Coolest Comeback After Being Compared to Michael Jordan
Victor Wembanyana put on another amazing show for the San Antonio Spurs, and people are starting to compare him to NBA legend Michael Jordan. The Spurs kept their perfect season going with a 107-101 win over the Miami Heat, making it five wins in a row to start the year.
This is the first time in the Spurs’ history they’ve started a season with five straight wins, and Wembanyana has been a big part of their success. In the latest game, the French star played 40 minutes and led the team with 27 points, six assists, and an impressive 18 rebounds—more than double anyone else on the team.
Wembanyana has clearly improved a lot in these first weeks. He’s now averaging 30.2 points per game, up from 24.3 last year, and his rebounds have jumped from 11 to 14.6 per game. With such a strong start, fans are already excited about what this young Spurs team could do.
Drafted first overall in 2023, Wembanyana has quickly become one of the most well-rounded players in the league. Last season, he joined Michael Jordan as one of the only players to have back-to-back games with at least five steals and five blocks! After that, he said, “I wonder if he did it in wins, not losses. For me, it’s not the main thing. Hopefully, we can look back and say this was a good game. I can’t be happy with a loss.”
The Spurs haven’t won a championship since 2014, and while they’re not yet favorites to make the Finals, their strong start has brought a lot of hope. “It feels great,” said 21-year-old Wembanyana. “These wins aren’t random; we earned every one. We started strong and want to keep this going as long as we can. When we’re almost sure to win, I feed off that energy.”
He added, “It was a tough game, so it feels good to get this win and share it with these people. I was thinking about the 5-0 record and the Spurs’ history, and I was proud to be a Spur right then.”
