Where Jeff Bezos’ wealth would rank him among the richest Premier League owners if he bought Liverpool

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has been approached about possibly investing in Liverpool, and here’s how his wealth compares to other Premier League club owners.

Bezos has talked about joining a group of investors led by Amit Bhatia, former Queens Park Rangers co-owner and son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal. On Tuesday, Liverpool’s majority owners, Fenway Sports Group, confirmed that Bhatia’s group is interested in buying a minority stake in the club.

Although Bezos has thought about buying NFL teams like the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders before, he chose not to go through with those deals. It’s not certain he will invest in Liverpool either, but fans would surely be excited if he does.

Since starting Amazon in 1994, Bezos has built a huge fortune of $256 billion (£192bn), making him the fourth-richest person in the world after Elon Musk and Google’s co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

So, how does Bezos rank among Premier League owners?

As of July 2026, Bezos would be the second richest Premier League owner, only behind Newcastle’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which took over from Mike Ashley in 2021 for £305m. PIF owns 85% of Newcastle, with the rest owned by the Reuben Family. PIF’s owners are extremely wealthy, with a combined net worth of around £723.3bn, making Newcastle the richest club in the league.

Manchester City was bought in 2008 by Sheikh Mansour’s Abu Dhabi Group for £200m. Mansour owns 81% of City Football Group and is worth about £22.8bn. Co-CEO of Silver Lake, Egon Durban, holds an 18% stake and is worth around £1.7bn.

The Glazer Family took control of Manchester United in 2005 and currently own 48% of the club. In early 2024, they sold some shares to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS company, which now owns nearly 29%. Ratcliffe’s net worth is £12.9bn, while the Glazers are worth £7.6bn, making United the third richest club.

Chelsea was sold by Roman Abramovich in 2022 to a group including Behdad Eghbali from Clearlake Capital, Todd Boehly, Mark Walter, and Hansjörg Wyss for £4.25bn. Clearlake owns the majority with about 61.5%. This group also bought French club RC Strasbourg to build a multi-club network.

Arsenal’s major owner, Stan Kroenke, first bought shares in 2007 and took full control by 2018 after buying out Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. Kroenke is worth about £16.1bn, making him fifth richest in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace has four owners: Woody Johnson holds 43%, Josh Harris and David Blitzer each own 18%, and Steve Parish, who helped save the club in 2010, owns just over 10%. Harris, who joined with Blitzer in 2015, is the richest with £8.4bn net worth.

Fulham was bought by Shahid Khan in 2013 for between £150m and £250m. Khan, who owns Flex-N-Gate, is worth around £10.9bn and has been at the club for nearly 13 years.

Aston Villa was saved from financial trouble in 2018 by Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, who together paid about £60m to take control. The owners of V Sports have a combined net worth of £8.1bn, with Sawiris accounting for £6.4bn.

Everton was taken over in 2024 by the Friedkin Group, led by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, who also owns Roma. Friedkin is worth about £7.1bn.

So, with Bezos possibly interested in Liverpool, he would join a group of some of the richest and most influential owners in the Premier League.
