Amazing Cristiano Ronaldo theory proven right after Al-Nassr star walks away from Portugal team

Cristiano Ronaldo’s quick exit from Portugal’s national team camp has got a lot of people talking—seeming to back up a wild theory about his role on the team.

On Wednesday morning (September 30), news came out that Ronaldo had a serious talk with manager Jorge Jesus after he didn’t get to play in Monday night’s Nations League win over Norway. Ronaldo was upset about being left on the bench and walked off angrily without waving to fans at the final whistle. Things got even more tense when he skipped training and then announced he was leaving the Portugal camp altogether.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner shared on social media Wednesday night: “After the coach’s press conference and a chat with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I’ve decided to leave the National Team training camp.” He promised to reveal the real reasons behind his decision to the Portuguese people soon. “For now, I just want to wish the best to Portugal and my teammates.”

Ronaldo’s choice has raised a lot of questions about his future with Portugal. At 41, he had thought about retiring after the World Cup this summer but decided to keep going as he aims for a big milestone—1,000 career goals.

Before Thursday’s Nations League match with Denmark, coach Jorge Jesus said, “There was no incident. Any player would feel frustrated warming up for a while and not getting on.” But it was clear Ronaldo’s pride was hurt by not playing against Norway.

Many know Ronaldo as a star used to being the center of attention. However, as his career winds down, it’s obvious his role is changing. Despite a disappointing World Cup, he was still picked regularly by former coach Roberto Martinez—even when he didn’t perform well.

Some fans think Ronaldo even has a say in the lineup. Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann shared his thoughts with The Sun after Portugal’s World Cup draw with DR Congo in June. Hamann said, “There was a friendly match before the World Cup with lots of changes, but Ronaldo stayed on. He seems to have so much influence that he kind of picks himself. I don’t think the manager can take him off without asking him.”

Hamann added that Ronaldo might be most useful coming on late in games when opponents are tired, saying, “He could make a big impact with his heading and shooting ability.” He also mentioned other options like João Félix and Gonçalo Ramos.

Now that Ronaldo has left Portugal’s camp, Hamann’s idea that Ronaldo holds real power over team decisions seems even more believable.
