Wyndham Clark’s huge US Open winnings confirmed as full prize money is shared

Wyndham Clark’s full US Open winnings have been announced after his amazing win at Shinnecock Hills.

On Sunday night, American golfer Clark held off strong challengers to claim his second US Open title at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York. The 32-year-old started the final day with a six-shot lead but saw it shrink quickly as fellow American Sam Burns played really well early on.

During his last round, Clark faced tough crowd reactions, with fans hoping Scottie Scheffler would win to complete a career Grand Slam, shouting “get in the bunker” after many of Clark’s shots. Despite this, Clark stayed calm and finished with a score of four under par, just one shot ahead of Burns.

“New York didn’t really like me. I love you guys, but I understand,” Clark said after his win. Talking about the time he broke a locker in frustration after missing the cut last year, he added, “Some of it is on me. I did some things last year that I regret. I’ve apologized many times and I hope to win you over with more good moments. But today, it’s my day.”

With this win at Shinnecock Hills, Clark not only earned his second US Open title, adding to his 2023 win at Los Angeles Country Club, but also took home the biggest share of the prize money. The total purse for this year’s US Open was $22.5 million (£16.4m), matching The Masters. As the winner, Clark will receive $4.5 million (£3.28m), though taxes will reduce that amount.

Meanwhile, Sam Burns earned $2.43 million (£1.77m) for second place, and third-place Tom Kim took home $1,532,530 (£1.12m). Scottie Scheffler, finishing fourth, received $920,882 (£672,244), while Masters champion Rory McIlroy got $128,756 (£93,992) for tying 32nd.
