Liverpool and Chelsea both showed interest in the star midfielder called the ‘best in the world.’
Liverpool and Chelsea might have a huge chance to sign one of the most exciting young players in the world this summer.
Even though the start was a bit slow because of the World Cup, the 2026 summer transfer window has been full of surprises, with many big moves happening in the Premier League.
The British transfer record has been broken twice this summer – first when Elliot Anderson moved from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for £116 million, and then when Morgan Rogers joined Chelsea from Aston Villa for £117 million.
So far, Chelsea and Tottenham have spent the most, but Liverpool looks set to make the biggest signing with a £120 million deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.
Besides Barcola, Liverpool have also paid €40 million (£34.6 million) to sign Osasuna winger Victor Munoz and brought in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan.
Even with all that spending, both Liverpool and Chelsea could still jump back into the market. They’ve been offered the chance to sign a midfielder considered one of the best in the world in a last-minute deal.
According to Ben Jacobs, Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola have been given the chance to sign Monaco’s star midfielder, Lamine Camara, before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, September 1.
Both teams have other deals to focus on, but midfield is an area they want to strengthen if the right opportunity comes along.
Camara, 22, could be that perfect fit. Monaco may be willing to sell him for the right price, especially after turning down a formal bid from Crystal Palace earlier this month.
Right now, it’s unclear what price Monaco wants for Camara, but some think it could be between €40-50 million (£34.3m – £42.9m).
After Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle and selling Curtis Jones, it’s clear they really need a strong midfielder. Chelsea might also want Camara if they sell Enzo Fernandez before the deadline.
Alonso left Fernandez out of the squad for Chelsea’s recent EFL Cup win over Luton Town, even though he was supposed to be available. It looks likely that Fernandez will soon join Manchester City.
That makes Camara an ideal signing for both Liverpool and Chelsea. Monaco, needing money after missing out on Champions League football this season, might be open to making a deal before the window closes.
If Liverpool or Chelsea do sign Camara, they’ll be getting a player considered one of the world’s best midfielders, according to Monaco’s new manager, Filipe Luis.
Luis said, “We’re probably talking about one of the best midfielders in the world. I don’t want to say too much because many clubs want him, and he means a lot to me. He’s great on the ball, covers a lot of ground, and is truly top class! I’m happy to have him, and he’s key to our team.
“Will he stay? I hope so. I think he’s happy here, and if he stays, he’ll be important to our plans.”
Camara has played 74 games for Monaco, scoring 6 goals and setting up 11 assists.
