Chris Eubank Jr’s quick reaction to Conor Benn losing to Ryan Garcia immediately goes viral
Chris Eubank Jr took a sharp jab at Conor Benn for cutting weight after Benn was stopped in the second round by Ryan Garcia. Garcia, the current WBC welterweight champion, ended the fight in just under four and a half minutes when the referee stepped in to stop it.
Benn came into the fight after winning against Chris Eubank Jr and Regis Prograis since last November, but sadly, his winning streak ended in Nevada. Eubank Jr didn’t hold back from pointing this out. The fight was a technical knockout (TKO) in Garcia’s favor, allowing him to keep his WBC welterweight title in his first defense.
Both Benn and Garcia made weight at the official weigh-in, with Benn weighing in at 10st 6lb. However, Benn revealed that he gained 32lbs in the 12 hours after the weigh-in, jumping to 12st 10lb. He told the BBC that cutting weight had been a really tough and painful experience.
Eubank Jr, who also had to cut a lot of weight for his fights against Benn and deal with a 10lb rehydration clause, didn’t miss the chance to poke fun. On X (Twitter), he wrote, “Welcome to the ’fighting after cutting too much weight’ club… Enjoy.”
Earlier that day, Eubank Jr made it clear whom he was backing by sharing a photo with Garcia. Eubank Jr’s own weight cut for their first fight back in April was so hard that he got in trouble with the British Boxing Board of Control for almost missing the 160lb limit and was fined £375,000, though he was allowed to fight due to the rehydration rule.
Benn won their second fight in November by unanimous decision.
Before the match with Garcia, Benn was asked if he felt any sympathy for Eubank Jr having gone through similar tough weight cuts. Benn’s answer was honest and clear. He said, “He got paid a fortune. Remember, his fight before mine was an easy one in Saudi, at 160 lbs. He hasn’t made weight properly in over four years. I’m not complaining or looking for sympathy, I just get on with it.”
