Lewis Hamilton shares what was talked about in the important ‘drivers’ meeting’ before the Mexico GP

Lewis Hamilton recently shared what he and Charles Leclerc agreed on before the heated 2026 Mexico City GP. Starting from pole position, Lewis and Charles raced side by side in the first few corners. Charles ended up cutting the track to keep his lead, which pushed Lewis back to third place. This led to a lot of tense messages from Lewis over the radio.

Lewis finished the race in second place after Charles lost out during a restart caused by a big crash involving Valtteri Bottas. But before that, Lewis had sent some strong messages to Ferrari, asking them to honor a pre-race deal they had made. Charles received a 5-second penalty for going off track and keeping the lead, but Lewis still felt it wasn’t fair.

“The stewards are basically giving Charles the win,” Lewis said. “We agreed in the drivers’ briefing that if you go off at Turn 1, you have to give the position back.” After the race, Lewis was calmer but still a bit upset. “It was a tough day. We had the speed to win, but it wasn’t meant to be. We’ll talk it over and figure things out behind the scenes.” He also mentioned how he got a 10-second penalty last year for the same move Charles made this time, and that was what lost them the win today.

On the bright side, Lewis praised how much the team has improved the car, especially since they were running the old engine this weekend. “Good points, good results. A win would have been great, but sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t.”

Lewis also took a moment to congratulate Kimi Antonelli, who finished third and became the youngest F1 world champion ever at just 20 years and 68 days old. “Huge congrats to Kimi and the Mercedes team,” said Lewis. “It’s amazing to see them celebrating. Being here to witness that moment means a lot.”
