The 2025 F1 World Drivers’ Champion will sport a one-of-a-kind fan-inspired car design at this weekend’s Mexico City GP, showcasing a collection of fans’ dreams. Lando Norris and McLaren are no strangers to special liveries, but this one is truly unique.

Norris and his teammate Oscar Piastri will race with a striking livery that combines fans’ original dreams into a shared design, as part of McLaren’s Principal Partner Velo’s Live Your Fandom campaign.

McLaren and Norris have always looked for ways to connect with their growing fanbase, but this campaign takes it to a whole new level. Earlier this year, fans were invited to share their most creative fan wishes, or ‘fan dreams.’ Some of the best ideas were brought to life on the Mexico City car through custom stickers.

Norris enjoyed seeing the creative ideas come together on the car. “It’s great to see these designs, and they remind me of some of my own dreams when I was younger,” he told SPORTbible. “A fan-based livery feels special. It’s not just a fancy design by a top artist, it’s real — we’re racing with their names and dreams on the car. That’s pretty amazing. The fans are the ones who make it all possible, so it’s cool to give back and make them feel part of our McLaren journey.”

But the fan involvement didn’t stop at the car. In fun and lighthearted videos on Velo’s Instagram, fans behind some of the most creative ideas joined Norris and Piastri for experiences like pottery making and learning how to make matcha tea.

“The pottery was really fun because it was a creative challenge, which I love,” Norris said. “It was different from what I normally do and a good laugh.”

Norris has been leading the way in bringing fans closer to the sport. His self-named ‘Lando Stand’ at the British Grand Prix, even though only two years old, has become a famous spot. This year, 16,000 fans filled the Silverstone section, showing just how popular Norris is.

Interestingly, Norris says the idea for the Lando Stand actually came from MotoGP, not racing. “Growing up, I was inspired by Valentino Rossi and how his fans supported him. I always wondered what it felt like to be cheered on like that. The Lando Stand has become even bigger than I imagined,” he said.

For Norris, the support at the Lando Stand means the world. “When I stop in front of them during the drivers’ parade, the shouting and chanting is crazy! It’s an amazing feeling,” he laughed. “Out on track, it’s just me surrounded by a sea of fluorescent yellow.”

He thinks the loyalty of McLaren fans makes them special. “What’s really great is how people stayed with us even when things got tough. I loved McLaren back when they were winning in ‘07 and ‘08, and I’ve stuck with them ever since. It’s amazing how much support we had during the hard years—it shows how much fans matter.”

This season has had its ups and downs for McLaren, but Norris’ wins in Zandvoort and Budapest show the team’s steady progress. “We always knew it’s tough to stay on top. Unlike football, every season comes with a new car and new challenges. It takes time to be the best consistently. But the team is ready, and I’m excited to finish strong this year and come back even better next season.”

Since becoming the 2025 World Drivers’ Champion, Norris’ star has risen far beyond F1. He’s appeared at big events like the BRIT Awards and been seen on billboards worldwide. But he says winning the title truly changed everything.

“It’s hard to explain—winning made it all real. I used to watch Lewis and Fernando win as a kid and thought it was almost impossible. Now I’ve lived it, and those memories—the last lap, the celebrations—are something I’ll treasure forever. I wish I could keep them in a box and relive them whenever I want because they’re just so special.”
