Andoni Iraola said the ‘really great’ Liverpool star should be in the starting lineup every week after the Chelsea game.
Liverpool fans are excited and want Andoni Iraola to start a certain player for the big game against Arsenal after his great showing in the Carabao Cup.
On Wednesday night, Liverpool made it to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals by beating Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out at Anfield. Chelsea took the lead early with a penalty from Morgan Rogers, but Cody Gakpo scored a penalty to level the match. However, it was another Liverpool player who really caught the fans’ attention.
Just four days after that game, Liverpool will face a tough challenge as they welcome Premier League champions Arsenal to Anfield on Sunday. Many don’t see Liverpool as title favorites this season, but a win against Arsenal could put them right back in the race, just three points behind the leaders.
Because of this, fans want Liverpool’s coach Iraola to pick the best players to start. After his performance against Chelsea, they are calling for young Trey Nyoni to be in the starting lineup.
One fan said, “Nyoni has been our best player again. He should start against Arsenal.” Another added, “I don’t usually buy into the hype, but Nyoni has to be part of our future midfield plans. He’s a fantastic talent and likely to be a long-term key player.” Someone else wrote, “We don’t praise Trey Nyoni enough. He reads the game so well and intercepts loads of balls. The kid is top quality.” A fan jokingly compared Nyoni and Ryan Gravenberch, saying, “If I didn’t know better, I’d think Nyoni was in his mid-20s and Gravenberch was still a teen.”
The numbers support the excitement. Nyoni had more touches (58) and completed more passes (41) than anyone else in the first half against Chelsea, showing how important he is to the team.
Nyoni is almost certain to start in Liverpool’s next Carabao Cup game, as they move on to the quarter-finals after a thrilling 6-5 penalty win. They’ll face Bournemouth, Iraola’s old club, in the next round, with matches set for the week starting Monday, December 14, 2026.
Fans are eager to see if Nyoni can keep shining in the upcoming tough games!
