Bayern shares update on Vincent Kompany’s health after medical check-up

Bayern Munich’s head coach, Vincent Kompany, has been released from the hospital after he collapsed at the club’s training ground on October 23. He fell ill while watching the FC Bayern reserve team train and was quickly taken to the hospital. The club later shared the news on their official channels.

On October 24, Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, gave an update saying Kompany was “stable” but would stay in the hospital a bit longer. Eberl said, “He’ll only come back when he’s fully ready. Some test results are in, but we need more to understand exactly what’s going on and how long recovery will take. He’s in great care, and the best thing we can do is support him with positive energy and love.”

Although Bayern thought about postponing their league game against Freiburg on October 25, they decided to play and won 3-1, keeping their unbeaten streak in the top German league.

The team played against Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal on October 28. Before the match, Eberl shared good news about Kompany’s health. He explained that the problem last Friday was due to meningeal irritation. Kompany had been fighting a viral infection in the weeks before this happened.

Eberl confirmed Kompany would continue recovering at home but didn’t say when he’d return to work. “They found out it was meningitis that caused last Friday’s incident,” Eberl said. “I’m very confident he’ll be back on the sidelines at 100% soon.”

For anyone curious, the NHS says meningitis symptoms include several signs and that it can be caused by viruses or bacteria, spreading through close contact with someone who’s infected.
