Premier League manager sack chances shift a lot as Man Utd share their thoughts on Michael Carrick

Michael Carrick is currently the clear favorite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job, although the chances for others have changed a lot in the past day. He’s facing a lot of pressure to fix things at Old Trafford. Manchester United recently lost 3-0 to Bournemouth and then 2-0 to Chelsea, despite the club showing faith in Carrick by giving him the job for now.

For a short time on Saturday, the Red Devils even dropped into the relegation zone before Crystal Palace lost to Tottenham Hotspur. The Chelsea game marked their ninth match without a win, making it very likely Carrick could be the first manager to be sacked this season.

Oddschecker shows that Carrick has the shortest odds (8/13 with William Hill) to be let go, even though he just signed a two-year deal. Pierre Sage, who took over at Palace this summer, is next on the list at 11/4 after a rough start to the season with only seven points from 27 available.

Regis Le Bris at Sunderland is third on the list. Sunderland, after finishing seventh last season, are now at the bottom with just five points from nine games. Newcastle United are also reportedly thinking about their manager Matthias Jaissle after a poor 1-0 loss to Everton at home.

Jaissle was surprised by their poor performance, which relied on long balls, something he said wasn’t part of the plan. “We lack confidence; to get out of this, we need to stick together and learn quickly,” he said. This was Newcastle’s second home loss in a row, and after fans booed their performance, the pressure on Jaissle, who’s 13/2 to be the first to go, is growing.

Both Jaissle and Carrick will be looking to turn things around soon. Carrick has two upcoming home games against Roma on November 3 and Aston Villa on November 8 before the international break, which will be crucial for him to prove himself.

Fabrizio Romano shared on his YouTube channel that Manchester United plan to back Carrick for these matches and then review his position. “The club wants to trust Michael Carrick for these games. After the match with Roma, they’ll take time during the international break to decide what comes next,” Romano explained.

He added that it would take something “crazy” for the club to sack Carrick before the break. Right now, the feeling at United is that Carrick has a good chance of staying through this tough patch. The international break will give the club a moment to carefully think about their options, unless United’s results take a sharp turn for the worse in the coming weeks.
