Fermín López has made up his mind about joining Man Utd, while Barcelona has shared their clear position on the transfer.
Barcelona’s attacking midfielder, Fermin Lopez, has reportedly made up his mind about joining Manchester United.
Talk of a move to Old Trafford started on Friday (October 30), when journalist Matteo Moretto suggested Lopez could be a replacement for Bruno Fernandes, whose contract ends this season. Moretto also said United showed interest in Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios, but the clubs are only at the early inquiry stage, not negotiating any deals yet.
Lopez would be a great attacking option for Michael Carrick’s team. He’s versatile, can play across the front line, and has lots of top-level experience. He’s already won two La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey with Barcelona, plus Euro 2024 with Spain.
Barcelona, who currently lead La Liga, are reportedly asking for around £84 million for the 23-year-old. Lopez has scored 37 goals and made 32 assists in 148 games and is signed with the club until 2031.
But according to journalist Fabrizio Romano on Saturday (October 31), it looks like Lopez isn’t interested in moving to United right now. In a video posted on X, Romano said: “Despite the recent reports, Fermin Lopez is definitely staying at Barcelona. Both Barca and people close to him are putting down the rumors about him moving to the Premier League.
“Fermin is very happy at Barcelona. He just signed a new deal a few months ago and is seen as a key player by both the club and director Deco. It’s not about money. The connection between him and Barcelona is strong, and there is no plan for any Premier League move.
“So everything is under control. Fermin Lopez is 100% staying at Barcelona.”
Even though this is a setback, Manchester United still want to sign a new striker in January since Benjamin Sesko is out with a shin injury. Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one name they are interested in, but Leeds want to keep him with a new contract.
Other players linked to United include Club Brugge’s Nicolo Tresoldi, Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Freiburg’s Igor Matanovic, as well as 24-year-old Dinamo Zagreb striker Dion Beljo.
