Liverpool reach out to Premier League club about £50m-rated star while Spurs and Chelsea show interest

Last summer, Liverpool spent a lot of money on new players under Arne Slot, and it seems like the club is ready to invest again to rebuild the team for next season. Even though the Reds won the Premier League last season, many thought it might be a year of change for the club. That didn’t really happen last year, but this season looks like the real transitional one. They seem ready to say goodbye to some long-time players as they work on rebuilding.
One area Liverpool really wants to improve is central defense, which has been a problem this season. They missed out on signing Marc Guehi last summer, and a few injuries in defense made things worse. So, bringing in new defenders to add more strength and options will be key if they want to fight for the title next year.
According to Voetbal International, Liverpool now plan to go after Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton and Hove Albion. Brighton might ask for around £50 million for the Dutch centre-back, and Liverpool will have to compete with other Premier League teams to sign him.
Van Hecke came to Brighton in 2020 but didn’t play for them until 2022 because he spent two seasons on loan at Heerenveen and Blackburn Rovers. Over the past three seasons, he’s been a solid player for Brighton, showing the kind of reliability Liverpool needs.
The 25-year-old has done so well that he started playing for the Netherlands national team in September 2024 against Germany and has earned 10 caps so far.
Liverpool aren’t the only ones interested in van Hecke—Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing him from Brighton.
