Arsenal star could miss the UEFA Champions League final because of what he did after beating Atletico Madrid.
Gabriel Jesus might miss the Champions League final after getting involved in a heated moment following Arsenal’s big win over Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal beat Atletico 2-1 on aggregate and will face Paris Saint-Germain in the final later this month. They drew 1-1 in Spain, and Bukayo Saka’s goal helped secure their spot in the final on Tuesday night.
While Arsenal’s celebrations after the win were a bit over the top, things got tense right at the end of the game. Jesus got into a bit of a scuffle after the final whistle.
Videos online show Atletico defender Marc Pubill stepping into Arsenal’s celebrations, which didn’t sit well with Jesus. The 29-year-old seemed to slap Pubill in the face. It all began when Pubill pushed Viktor Gyokeres, who was celebrating with teammates Cristhian Mosquera and Jesus.
Mosquera tried to calm things down by leading Pubill away, but Jesus responded with the slap. Teammates Myles Lewis-Skelly and Declan Rice quickly jumped in to separate them and guided Pubill toward the tunnel.
Now, Arsenal are waiting to find out if Jesus will be allowed to play against PSG in the Champions League final in Budapest on May 30. UEFA is still checking the referee’s reports before deciding if any punishment is needed. The final call will come from the UEFA Disciplinary Panel based on the match official’s report.
Jesus didn’t play in the 1-0 win against Atletico and has had a limited role this season due to an ACL injury he suffered last year. He has made 26 appearances, starting only eight games.
The Brazilian striker is eager to finish his comeback by winning the Champions League and helping Arsenal in their fight for the Premier League title in the final weeks of the season. He was also part of the Man City team that lost the 2021 Champions League final to Chelsea.
