Martin Brundle had one of the most fun grid walk interviews of the F1 season when he chatted with Eileen Gu before the Singapore GP.
Fans are loving Martin Brundle’s chat with three-time Olympic champion Eileen Gu before the Singapore Grand Prix. Gu, who took gold in the women’s halfpipe at the 2026 Winter Olympics, was on the grid right before the race at Marina Bay. Earlier, she was even seen interviewing George Russell as he walked the pit lane on Sunday.
Gu said this was her first time at an F1 race in Singapore, which has been on the calendar since 2008. Brundle had a busy gridwalk earlier, with Lewis Hamilton’s partner Kim Kardashian stopping by for a quick talk on Sky Sports F1.
Kardashian started by apologizing to Brundle for ignoring him at the Monaco Grand Prix and said she felt “very confident” Hamilton would have a great race.
Later, Brundle spoke to Olympic star Gu, calling her a three-time gold medalist and saying, “I love watching you! It’s such a pleasure to meet you.”
Gu replied, “It’s my first Singapore Grand Prix, and the atmosphere is amazing! I can’t wait to celebrate sports here. Let’s do it!”
Brundle said, “Watching you in the halfpipe, especially with that last chance, reminds me of a qualifying lap in Formula 1. You’ve got to nail it, right?”
Gu agreed, “Sometimes the pressure in qualifiers is even higher than in finals. It depends on the track. For me, just making the final can be really tough. At the Olympics, I fell in my first two runs in all events, so you can imagine the pressure.”
Brundle said it was great to see her on the grid, then quickly noticed Mercedes driver and championship leader Kimi Antonelli walking by. “I’ll just have a quick chat with Kimi,” he said.
After that, Brundle apologized to Gu, “Sorry I didn’t say goodbye properly. Thanks so much, nice to see you!”
Fans reacted warmly: “Love to see Martin Brundle shout out Eileen Gu on the grid—she’s an amazing athlete,” one said. Another added, “Martin Brundle was way more excited to see Eileen Gu than Kim Kardashian.”
Gu, sponsored by Red Bull, wore their cap on the grid. She must have enjoyed watching Max Verstappen lead the race from start to finish for his second win of the 2026 season. Verstappen started on pole, faced some early pressure from Charles Leclerc, but stayed in control despite his team radio having a glitch midway through.
His race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, told him to press the key button on his team radio to answer some questions because they couldn’t hear each other.
