Former Chelsea young player’s contract ended after only two games at famous Serie A team.

Many young players have found it tough to make it at Chelsea but went on to shine elsewhere, like Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne. However, one of their former young talents hasn’t had the same luck in Italy’s Serie A.

Salah, for example, moved to Italy to get more game time, did well there, and then went on to Liverpool, where he won two Premier League titles and a Champions League. De Bruyne took a similar path but played in Germany’s Bundesliga first, impressing Wolfsburg before joining Manchester City, where he’s won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and a Champions League.

This Chelsea youngster didn’t go straight to Serie A but first played for Brighton & Hove Albion. Later, he moved to Italy, but things didn’t go as planned. Tariq Lamptey joined Fiorentina in September 2025 for around €6 million from Brighton, but it turned out to be a tough season. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious knee injury (anterior cruciate ligament tear) in a match against Como on September 21, which ended his season after only two appearances.

Recently, Lamptey and Fiorentina agreed to end his contract, confirming they parted ways. He had hoped to show his skills in Serie A this season and boost his chances to be selected for Ghana’s World Cup squad, as Ghana prepares to play against England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L.

At 25, Lamptey showed promise at Brighton but struggled to get steady playing time, which likely influenced his move to Italy. Now, with many good years ahead, it’s unclear where he’ll play next. Several clubs in England and across Europe may be interested once he’s fully recovered from his injury.
