Marcus Rashford quickly spoke out to explain a post shortly after being called up to the England team.

Just after an England call-up that might have seemed unlikely two years ago—when he missed out on Southgate’s final Euros squad—Marcus Rashford has spoken up to clear the air around a statement he made that appeared to overlook Manchester United.
Rashford has scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in 48 games for his Spanish club, helping them win the La Liga title. Before that, he spent six months on loan at Aston Villa, where his Champions League performances against Real Madrid reminded everyone, including the new England manager, what he’s capable of.
After a strong spell at FC Barcelona, he’s now been called back to the international squad for the tournament. But right after the announcement, Rashford shared a message that seemed to support Manchester United, following an earlier post that some thought ignored his old team.
Just moments after being named to the World Cup squad—a dream two years in the making after a tough period in 2024—Rashford thanked those who helped him along the way. He mentioned Hansi Flick, Unai Emery, Thomas Tuchel, and the teams at Villa, Barcelona, and England, but didn’t mention Manchester United.
This led many to think he was throwing shade at his former club. But Rashford quickly cleared things up on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “To make my IG story clear. It’s not a dig at all! I’m a MU supporter, and that still stands.
“I was just showing thanks to the clubs and coaches I’ve worked with over the last 18 months. They played a big part in this [England] call-up.”
Rashford is still with Barcelona as they finish the season after winning La Liga. His one-year loan is ending, and the club could trigger the £26 million option to buy him—which would make his move from Manchester United permanent.
If they don’t, Rashford will return to a United team full of attacking stars and will have to work hard to win back the fans’ love.
