Chelsea ramps up chase for £60m Premier League star as seven clubs join the race
Xabi Alonso and Chelsea have shown strong interest in a highly rated Premier League midfielder, and six other clubs are also keen on him. Even though the transfer window won’t open until June 15, the rumors are already buzzing as teams plan for the summer.
Chelsea is looking to improve after a tough 2025/26 season, where they finished 10th with 52 points and ended up sacking both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior. Now, former Liverpool midfielder and coach Alonso, who has also managed Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid, is leading the team’s comeback. He’ll soon welcome Portuguese winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP and Brazilian left-back Denner, both of whom agreed to join Chelsea before Alonso arrived.
Some players will leave Chelsea this summer, and new ones may come in. One possible signing is Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. According to TeamTalk, seven Premier League teams are interested in Scott, including Arsenal, Tottenham—Scott’s favorite club—Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Newcastle. But it looks like Manchester United and Chelsea are the main contenders to sign him.
Bournemouth want to keep the 22-year-old and plan to offer him a new contract after he helped the club reach the Europa League for the first time, scoring four goals and assisting once last season. However, Bournemouth value Scott at around £60 million and won’t accept offers less than that.
Scott joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 and was even named in Thomas Tuchel’s provisional 55-man World Cup squad, though he didn’t make the final 26. Chelsea has recently increased their interest, doing detailed checks on him, while United see Scott as a potential midfield partner for Kobbie Mainoo after Casemiro is expected to leave.
Along with Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, Fulham’s Josh King, and Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha, Scott will support the England squad at their World Cup training camp in Miami. Last week, Tuchel praised Scott’s attitude about being included in the wider squad.
He said, “We’re bringing some young players to train with us to fill out the squad and help manage player minutes in friendly matches. I’m happy to have Alex with us because although he didn’t make the final World Cup squad, his reaction was great. His commitment and eagerness to be involved showed great character. I’m glad he’s here—it was a close call, and now he has a chance to get even closer and maybe earn his first cap.”
