Jeremie Frimpong opens up about missing out on the Netherlands World Cup team after Ronald Koeman’s remarks

Liverpool right-back Jeremie Frimpong has shared his thoughts for the first time since missing out on the Netherlands World Cup squad.
Frimpong, who joined Liverpool last summer, was a surprising exclusion when coach Ronald Koeman named his team on Wednesday. Koeman said he left the 25-year-old out because of several physical issues during the season, both with Liverpool and on international duty.
Frimpong replied to this on Instagram, sending good wishes to his teammates heading to the World Cup. He posted a picture with fellow Dutch players Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, Jurrien Timber, Virgil van Dijk, and Micky van de Ven.
Gravenberch, Gakpo, and Van Dijk—all club teammates of Frimpong—made the World Cup squad. Meanwhile, Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee and Burnley forward Zian Flemming will watch the tournament from home.
PSV midfielder Joey Veerman was also left out, which wasn’t too surprising since he’d said after PSV’s last game that Koeman “doesn’t need to call me anymore.” Koeman previously mentioned Veerman’s character as a concern, and Veerman responded by saying he’d had enough of those comments.
A reporter asked Koeman about Flemming, who scored 11 Premier League goals this season but wasn’t picked. Koeman simply replied, “Who?” Flemming hasn’t spoken out yet and might be leaving Burnley after their relegation.
As for Frimpong, he’ll now focus fully on getting ready for his second season at Liverpool. However, he may lose a defensive partner next season. Ibrahima Konate looks set to leave Anfield on a free transfer after not agreeing to a new contract.
Konate is linked with top clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and even another Premier League team showing interest.
Liverpool are reportedly thinking about bringing Jarell Quansah back to replace Konate. The club has a buy-back clause for Quansah, who plays at Bayer Leverkusen now, set at around £70 million, dropping to £55 million in 2027.
