England fans all say the same thing after a quiet win against New Zealand
England fans all had the same complaint after watching Thomas Tuchel’s team win 1-0 in a World Cup warm-up match against New Zealand.
England played the lowest-ranked team in the tournament at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday (June 6). Tuchel picked a strong starting lineup with players like Jordan Pickford, John Stones, Marcus Rashford, Harry Kane, and Ollie Watkins.
Four Arsenal players, Declan Rice, Noni Madueke, Bukayo Saka, and Eberechi Eze, didn’t play since they joined the squad late after the Champions League final.
Even with all that talent, England had a hard time showing their strength in the hot Tampa weather. Many players seemed tired and missed chances, but Kane scored with a header from Spence’s cross just before halftime, making it 1-0.
Tuchel then changed the entire lineup for the second half, bringing on 11 new players, including debutant Rio Ngumoha, who isn’t in the 26-man World Cup squad.
Despite trying 22 different players, few impressed the fans. Many England supporters felt the same way and called the team “boring” even though they won.
One fan said: “England’s style is so passive and boring. The stadium was empty, the atmosphere was dead, and the pitch wasn’t great. If it’s like this at the World Cup, I might go to bed early.”
Another added: “England just aren’t fun to watch, not now or anytime I remember. No matter the coach or players, it’s just boring.”
A third fan commented: “No matter who manages England or which players are on, their matches are the most boring in football.”
Another shared: “I never understood the hype around Tuchel. People treat him like a top coach, but his teams play some of the dullest football. I don’t think England will get past the group stage.”
One more wrote: “I don’t get excited for England anymore. They’ve been boring for years. I haven’t even thought much about the World Cup. Maybe this time will be different? Probably not. I’d love to see some exciting attacking football.”
And another fan said: “So dull! Now I know why I hardly watch England games anymore!”
England will play Costa Rica in their last warm-up match on June 10 before starting the World Cup against Croatia on June 17.
They will also face Ghana and Panama in Group L.
