Real Madrid has reached out to UEFA, asking them to take disciplinary action against Barcelona. They shared this news on their website and social media channels.

This comes after Barcelona announced they were starting legal action against Real Madrid because of comments made by Florentino Perez during a press conference before the club’s presidential election.

Perez, the Real Madrid president, said that Barcelona had unfairly won seven La Liga titles while he has been in charge, and this claim is being looked into as part of the Negreira case.

Now, Real Madrid has sent a letter to UEFA asking them to investigate and take action against Barcelona. The club says that Barcelona’s payments to the former vice-president of the referees’ committee could seriously damage the fairness of the competitions.

In the letter, Real Madrid explained: “We have shared important new evidence with UEFA that supports earlier concerns about Barcelona making secret payments without clear reasons to José María Enríquez Negreira, who was part of the referees’ committee. These payments were made through various companies.”

Real Madrid stresses that these actions threaten the fairness and honesty of football because they show a possible unfair influence over referees. This goes against the core principles of fair play, neutrality, and unpredictability in the sport.

The club has asked UEFA to speed up their disciplinary investigation and said it’s unacceptable that this issue has dragged on, as it hurts football’s reputation. They want a strong and quick response from UEFA, separate from the legal process.

Real Madrid also made clear that they want UEFA to take the right disciplinary steps to protect the integrity and fairness of competitions. However, they recognize that UEFA’s role is separate from the legal system and won’t interfere with any criminal investigations. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will keep pursuing the case through the courts as they have from the start.
