Elliot Anderson is set to have a medical check-up in New York on Friday before making a British record transfer to Manchester City. After months of talk, the talented midfielder is finally about to leave Nottingham Forest just before England’s last group game against Panama.

Earlier this month, Manchester City offered £106 million plus about £12 million in add-ons, but Forest turned it down, hoping for more than the £125 million Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak. Despite interest from Manchester United and Premier League champions Arsenal, Anderson wanted to join City.

On Thursday, The Athletic reported that City had agreed a deal to sign the 23-year-old, who will have his medical in New York. Alex Crook and others also confirmed the transfer is a British record worth £130 million including add-ons.

Anderson has big shoes to fill, but Forest are already looking at Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall as a possible replacement. Bergvall, who played 11 Premier League games last season, is interested in new opportunities. Although manager Roberto De Zerbi wants to keep him, Bergvall is reportedly open to leaving Tottenham.

This move will make Anderson Manchester City’s most expensive signing, beating the £100 million they paid for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Micah Richards recently shared why Anderson was keen to join City. He said, “Pep and City have created a place where top players want to come, no matter who the manager is. Pep had an amazing run with four titles in a row and a Champions League win, but the club’s setup means players choose City first. Playing alongside stars like Rodri, Phil Foden, and Erling Haaland means you’re always in the hunt for trophies.

“Of course, clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool have great history and appeal to many fans, but players also think about what’s best for their careers.”
