Andros Townsend surprised football fans by sharing what he was eating while working as a co-commentator for ITV at the World Cup.

The former England player, who appeared 291 times in the Premier League with clubs like Spurs, Queens Park Rangers, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Luton Town, has been busy providing analysis alongside lead commentator Seb Hutchinson during games in North America.

He worked on matches like Argentina vs Algeria, Germany vs Curacao, and Canada vs Qatar, and has been sharing his World Cup journey on TikTok, where he has 30,000 followers.

In one recent video, Townsend’s food choice during the Canada vs Qatar game in Vancouver caught a lot of attention. He showed himself eating what looked like raw beef straight from a tupperware, with a caption that read, “Never let your circumstances dictate your health.”

He explained further: “Travel often makes people use excuses—long days, airports, hotels, and limited food options. But I think differently. No matter where I am, whether at home or covering a World Cup match halfway around the world, I keep the same goal: take care of my health, fuel my body well, and make choices that help me move forward. Challenges will always be there, but so are solutions. You just have to decide what to focus on.”

Unsurprisingly, this raw beef snack sparked lots of conversations online. One fan joked, “I don’t mean to scare anyone, but Andros Townsend is at the World Cup eating raw beef out of a tupperware.” Another added, “Life’s too short to eat like this every day, Andros.” And one more said, “Come on Andros, just have a burger and chips.”

On his TikTok, Townsend also shared that he was fasting for eight hours and broke his fast by eating boiled eggs while commentating. In Mexico, he cooked a steak at his Airbnb in the US and packed it in a cooler bag. He also admitted to eating two sardines daily, trying raw ice cream, and even completing a seven-day water-only fast.

Townsend’s unusual food choices aren’t new. He once revealed on Ben Foster’s podcast in 2023 that he eats steamed chicken feet every night because of their collagen and cartilage benefits. He said, “The daily supplements you take at training mostly come from chicken feet and similar stuff.”

Townsend is still playing football and recently finished a season in Thailand with Kanchanaburi Power. Before that, he played in Turkey with Antalyaspor, who signed him despite a transfer ban, picking him up on a free transfer.
