Arsenal quietly announces a new signing for the summer transfer window

Arsenal have quietly made their first summer transfer move.

The Gunners are close to winning their first Premier League title since 2004, after beating West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday. Manchester City is five points behind Arsenal and has one game left to play against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Manager Mikel Arteta is aiming for a famous double—winning the league and then facing European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final at the end of the month.

Even with the season still going, Arsenal are already planning to strengthen their squad in the transfer window. Their first move this summer is actually a sale that could free up money for strengthening the defense as Arteta prepares to defend their titles.

Last week, Porto announced they have made Polish defender Jakub Kiwior’s move permanent. The 26-year-old has signed with Porto until the summer of 2030.

“FC Porto has exercised their purchase option from Arsenal for a fixed fee of €17 million, plus up to €5 million more based on certain achievements,” said the Portuguese club. Arsenal also agreed to a small sell-on fee.

Arsenal confirmed the deal is done, although the news came out quietly in their regular ‘loan watch’ update this week.

Kiwior joined Arsenal three years ago from Italian club Spezia, after impressing at Zilina in Slovakia. He spent last season on loan at Porto, where he played 25 league games and helped the team win the Primeira Liga title for the first time since 2021-22.

“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Jakub all the best for the season ahead at Porto,” said Arsenal.com back in September. They also congratulated him when Porto won the title.

Kiwior leaves Arsenal having made 44 Premier League appearances.
