Wayne Rooney might upset his Man Utd teammates with his recent thoughts on the Man City 115 charges story.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney gave an interesting answer when asked if he’d want a Premier League winners’ medal from the 2011/12 season if Manchester City lost their title. Rooney talked about Man City’s current situation on Match of the Day 2 after the Premier League found the club guilty of most charges against them.

Since the verdict, many ex-players from different teams have shared their thoughts on whether they’d want medals if titles were taken away. Possible punishments for Man City include points deductions, playing suspensions, replaying matches, being kicked out of the league, paying other clubs, automatic relegation, or losing titles.

Former United stars like Rio Ferdinand, David de Gea, and Paul Scholes joked they’d happily accept another medal since they finished second to City that year. De Gea asked on X, “So, how many Premier League titles have I won?” while Scholes wrote on Instagram, “I want my medal, I’m a greedy b***.” Ferdinand added, “Another Premier League medal to be added to the cabinet” after the guilty verdict.

But Rooney doesn’t agree with them. On Match of the Day 2, when Kelly Cates asked if he’d accept a retrospective medal, Rooney said, “They could be fighting for the title or fighting against relegation. No one knows how this will end. It’s a tough situation, but players can only focus on their job on the pitch. The powers above will decide what happens.”

He continued, “From a player’s view, those players didn’t know what was happening. They played and won the league in 2012. We finished second, not first, so I wouldn’t want a medal for coming second.”

Rooney was part of the United team that lost the title on goal difference on the final day, after Sergio Aguero’s last-minute goal won it for City. City has appealed the verdict, saying they have strong evidence to prove their innocence. They called the verdict full of errors and said the club is innocent of the Premier League’s accusations.

The appeal result is expected within 12 weeks and will be announced publicly within 30 days.
