Yankuba Minteh’s transfer story takes a big turn as Liverpool faces a £20m decision.

Brighton and Hove Albion might put Liverpool in a tricky spot with a big decision about Yankuba Minteh just days before the transfer window closes.

Even though the 2026/27 Premier League season started last weekend, teams still have until September 1 to sign new players.

Brighton’s manager Andoni Iraola has already brought in Victor Munoz from Osasuna and Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes on permanent deals this summer. Ronald Araujo has also joined on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Brighton is also in talks about Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola, but his future isn’t clear yet. The clubs discussed the winger again on Tuesday (August 25), but PSG wants £145 million — a price Liverpool don’t seem ready to pay.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are interested in Brighton’s Minteh, and the Seagulls have now told Liverpool their price. It was reported Liverpool first offered £50 million for the Gambia international, but Brighton said no. Liverpool tried again with £60 million, but Brighton values him at £80 million.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool don’t want to pay £80 million and seem to be sticking to a maximum of £65 million. Minteh is under contract with Brighton until 2029 and has played 73 games, scoring 10 goals and helping with nine assists.

Liverpool is also interested in PSG’s young player Ibrahim Mbaye. Iraola wants to sign at least two wingers before the deadline.

If Liverpool get these players, it might mean Cody Gakpo could leave, as Manchester City has shown interest, and Spurs were linked to him before.

Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs shared on talkSPORT on Monday: “They had talks last weekend over Minteh. They’re deciding today, so things could change quickly if they want to make a third offer.

“If Liverpool offer £70 million, it’s likely done, according to Brighton sources. But Liverpool might try £65 million first. That was talked about over the weekend. If they bid again, it might be their final offer since they have other options like Ibrahim Mbaye.

“PSG wants €70 million (£59.8 million), similar to Minteh’s price. So Liverpool has two options at about the same cost. My guess is they’ll go for Barcola plus one other.”

Liverpool will play Nottingham Forest at home on August 29.
