Vinicius Jr stirs up a lot of buzz on social media just hours after getting a red card for Real Madrid

Vinicius Junior made a strong comeback after being sent off for pulling an opponent’s hair during Real Madrid’s 1-0 La Liga win over Villarreal.
Yan Diomande scored the only goal of the match for Real in the 63rd minute, but Jose Mourinho’s team had to hold on to their lead after Vinicius received a straight red card. Vinicius thought he scored Real’s second goal in the 72nd minute, but VAR spotted that he had pulled Villarreal’s Nathan Saliba’s hair during the build-up, so the goal was canceled, and Vinicius was sent off. The 26-year-old reportedly apologized to his teammates afterward, but his social media posts might cause some trouble.
Vinicius also said sorry to the fans on social media for his red card. However, he shared a post from a fan page showing a series of fouls on him this season that didn’t get red cards. The post said, “And the one who gets the yellow and red is Vinicius, what a disgrace,” and Vinicius reacted with laughing emojis. While he didn’t question his own red card, his post hints at frustration over how referees treat him compared to others, which will likely start a big discussion.
According to Spanish news outlet MARCA, Real’s coach Jose Mourinho skipped the post-match press conference, probably because he was angry about the referee’s decisions. He reportedly said he wants to be on the bench for Real’s upcoming matches against Sevilla and Barcelona. Nobody from Real Madrid spoke to the media after the game.
Midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni did talk to Real Madrid TV about Vinicius’ red card. “I don’t know what’s going on with the referees,” he said. “I don’t understand this red card. The most important thing is the win.”
For Diomande, his goal was his first competitive one for Real after joining from RB Leipzig for a club-record €125 million last summer. He might play an even bigger role in the upcoming El Clasico in October. Vinicius is set to miss the next La Liga match against Sevilla, and his ban could be extended up to three games for violent conduct—which might mean he misses the big away game against Barcelona on October 25.
