Brazil fans accused of singing a chant against Donald Trump during the US national anthem

Some Brazil fans were heard singing an anti-Donald Trump chant while the U.S. national anthem played before their friendly match in Sao Paulo, reports say.
Brazil celebrated a rare win over the U.S. Women’s National Team on Saturday, with goals from Taina Maranhao and Bia Zaneratto giving them only their fifth victory in 44 games against the U.S.
The U.S. started strong, with Sophia Wilson scoring early after Trinity Rodman regained the ball in Brazil’s half. But Brazil quickly responded—Maranhao scored an equalizer 10 minutes in from a perfect cross by Isabela. Then, Zaneratto gave Brazil the lead at 14 minutes with a calm finish past Mandy McGlynn. That was enough to secure a big win for Brazil’s coach, Arthur Elias.
Emma Hayes, the U.S. coach, said after the game, “The atmosphere was amazing. You can prepare your team, but you don’t really know what it feels like until you’re there.” She added, “For many players, this was the first time they’ve felt such intensity from the crowd.”
Aside from the match, a big topic online was the crowd’s reaction during the U.S. anthem in Sao Paulo. According to TotalProSports, Brazil fans chanted, “Hey Trump, go f*** yourself” while the anthem played.
This chant comes just days after the Trump administration proposed 25% tariffs on Brazilian imports, accusing Brazil of unfair trade. Brazil’s president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, called the decision “indignation.” He said he spoke with Trump for three hours and criticized Marco Rubio, calling him anti-Latin American. Lula said Trump “does not like Brazil.”
It’s not clear if the chant was a direct response to the tariffs, but it got a lot of attention.
