Drake will earn $1 million after Canada’s World Cup win against South Africa.

Rap star Drake is ready to make $1 million if Canada reaches the World Cup round of 16 for the first time ever. As co-hosts, Canada made it to the knockout stages after finishing second in Group B, just behind Switzerland, despite losing their last group match.
With four points from three games, Jesse Marsch’s team qualified ahead of Bosnia-Herzegovina thanks to goal difference. Since they didn’t win the group, they missed out on playing their next game at home, which was a big disappointment. Instead, Canada will play their round of 16 match against South Africa at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sunday, becoming the first co-host to play a World Cup game in another country.
Still, Drake, one of Canada’s biggest supporters, is confident they’ll win. Known for placing big bets on sports through Stake, a gambling company he’s connected to, Drake recently bet $770,000 on Canada to beat South Africa. He shared a screenshot of the bet and said he raised the stakes after South African DJ and producer Black Coffee messaged him.
From Toronto, Drake proudly supports Canada and has placed big bets before. In 2024, he bet $300,000 on Canada beating Argentina in the Copa America semifinal — a bet that could have won him $2.8 million — but Argentina won 2-0 and went on to win the tournament.
In the last World Cup, Drake also supported Argentina to win the 2022 final against France, betting $1 million. He made that prediction while wearing a Napoli shirt during a livestream, and it was right: Lionel Messi finally won the World Cup. The match was an exciting 3-3 draw with Messi scoring twice and Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick, leading to a tense penalty shoot-out won by Argentina’s Gonzalo Montiel.
However, because Drake’s bet was for Argentina to win in regular time, he didn’t win that wager after the game went to penalties.
