What should have been an easy win for Jannik Sinner to add more trophies, especially with world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz out due to a long-term injury, might now be a bit tricky as Alcaraz could miss the French Open too.

Sinner has already been climbing the ATP rankings without playing since his victory at the Italian Open. But even without Alcaraz in the competition, the French Open might be arriving too soon for Sinner, as his busy schedule is starting to wear him down.

After pushing himself hard in every tournament for years, there’s now some worry that Sinner might need to take a break and possibly skip the French Open.

In fact, Sinner has already cut back his tournaments for 2026 because the constant matches have taken a toll on him. He even suffered cramps during the Italian Open semi-final against Daniil Medvedev.

Having just completed the ‘Career Golden Masters’ by winning the Italian Open, it seems like Sinner might be looking forward to some well-deserved rest.

The Italian Open director told Eurosport that Sinner’s body is feeling the strain after so many long tournaments. Sinner even thought about missing his home tournament earlier this month.

The director, Angelo Binaghi, shared a chat with fellow Italian player Matteo Berrettini, who said Sinner “couldn’t” keep going in Italy but found a little extra energy at the last moment.

“Berrettini told me: ‘Yes, yes, look, it’s impossible for him to come, he can’t do it anymore.’ So I was resigned,” Binaghi said.

“We were really worried about his physical condition. He showed signs of trouble at the end of his matches with Rublev and especially Medvedev.”

“I think in that last match, Jannik found energy he didn’t even know he had. That’s what great champions do — they push past limits normal people can’t.”

Sinner is definitely planning to play at the French Open and even wants to lead a protest over how prize money is shared at the tournament. But how far he can go is still uncertain.

As for who might gain from this, Novak Djokovic is stepping up his training as he aims to win that elusive final trophy.
