David de Gea’s short nine-word message goes viral just minutes after Man Utd’s loss to Hull.
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea shared a short nine-word message on social media just minutes after his old team lost 2-0 to Hull City.
United suffered a defeat in their first game of the new Premier League season at the MKM Stadium.
Hull, newly promoted, scored first at 17 minutes thanks to defender Semi Ajayi, who finished off a rebound after Oli McBurnie hit the post from a corner.
The score became 2-0 in the 38th minute when new signing Nobel Mendy connected with another set piece.
United’s defensive problems were obvious, and they struggled to create chances, managing only five shots on target during the whole match.
There was some good news on Saturday morning when it was announced that United had agreed to sign Brighton’s midfielder Carlos Baleba. Still, after that performance at Hull, it’s clear they need to sign more players before the transfer window closes.
Many United fans showed their disappointment by leaving the stadium before the players could thank them at the away end.

Despite the tough start, United coach Michael Carrick stayed positive, telling TNT Sports: “We’ll keep improving through the week, and we’ll get stronger as a team. It’s clear we have a lot to work on, but we will.”
Another former United player staying calm is De Gea, who occasionally shares thoughts about his old club since leaving on a free transfer three years ago.
Just minutes before the final whistle at MKM Stadium, the Spanish goalkeeper tweeted a short message that seemed aimed at United:
“It’s not how it starts, it’s how it ends.”
Within two hours, the post earned 94,000 likes, with many United fans jumping in the comments to share their thoughts.
Now 35, De Gea plays for Serie A club Fiorentina, where he has been for the past two seasons after taking a year off following his United exit.
He’s signed until 2028 and is preparing for Fiorentina’s first league match of the season, which will be away at Roma on Monday evening to close out the opening round of games.
