Lando Norris speaks up after rival says ‘Drivers talk too much’ before the British GP
Lando Norris has responded to Fernando Alonso’s comments about how quickly other F1 teams are developing their cars ahead of the British Grand Prix.
This Sunday, the F1 drivers will race at Silverstone, a legendary track that many consider one of the best on the calendar. Last year, the British Grand Prix made history when Nico Hulkenberg got his first-ever podium after 239 starts, giving Sauber a career-best result.
Looking ahead to this year’s race, fans will be watching British drivers closely. Lewis Hamilton in his Ferrari and George Russell for Mercedes are both strong contenders for the win and the championship. Lando Norris, who won at Silverstone last year, will also be one to watch as he chases his first victory of the season driving for McLaren.
Luckily for Norris, McLaren will bring the first of several upgrades this summer, helping their car stay competitive. They’re one of a few teams planning upgrades at Silverstone.
On the other hand, Aston Martin, who’s had a tough start with only one point so far, won’t bring any big updates for the British GP. They plan to focus on one major upgrade during the summer break instead of smaller improvements spread out. Alonso wasn’t happy about this and spoke out during the Austrian Grand Prix, saying that budget limits might be holding some teams back.
“I didn’t agree with waiting until summer to bring upgrades,” Alonso said. “It’s surprising because other teams seem to keep bringing lots of updates.”
Norris didn’t hold back in his reply, saying drivers don’t really know the full financial picture behind the scenes. “Drivers talk too much. They’re not accountants, they don’t really know how it works,” he said.
He also suggested Alonso shouldn’t criticize other teams, pointing out that Aston Martin might just be slower at adjusting. “It’s about how quickly you react, how much time you spend on details like wind tunnel testing, and how efficiently you make parts,” Norris explained. “Every team is trying to do better than the rest, and you have to stay ahead in every way you can.”
