England World Cup hero gets noticed by big European clubs just hours after beating Costa Rica
An England player might be leaving the Premier League during this summer’s transfer window.
England kept getting ready for the World Cup with a strong 3-0 win against Costa Rica in Miami on June 10. New Barcelona player Anthony Gordon shone brightly, scoring a goal and setting up another. Declan Rice and Ollie Watkins also scored.
Jordan Pickford was in goal, while Reece James, Ezri Konsa, John Stones, and Nico O’Reilly made up the defense. Rice and Elliot Anderson played in central midfield, with Noni Madueke, Jude Bellingham, and Gordon ahead of them, and captain Harry Kane led the attack.
Coach Tuchel used 11 of his 15 substitutes, with only Tino Livramento, Jordan Henderson, Ivan Toney, and James Trafford not coming on.
Even though the tournament lasts five weeks, clubs are still working on transfers while their players focus on international matches.
One player who might move from Spurs is full-back Djed Spence. Italian reports say Juventus want to sign him if Andrea Cambiaso leaves this summer. Cambiaso is attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester City, and Barcelona are also keen. If Cambiaso goes, Spence could return to Italy, where he spent time at Genoa in 2024.
Spence is well thought of by Juventus’ sporting director Marco Ottolini, who brought him to Genoa before. The 25-year-old can play on both left and right side of defense. He has played 85 times for Spurs, scoring twice and assisting three times. His contract with Spurs runs until 2029.
However, Spence might find it harder to get into the starting team after the arrival of Andrew Robertson, the former Liverpool left-back. Destiny Udogie is also hoping for a chance to start under coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Juventus are also linked with Aston Villa’s goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez, Atletico Madrid’s forward Alexander Sørloth, Real Madrid’s winger Brahim Díaz, and Paris Saint-Germain’s striker Randal Kolo Muani, who had a loan spell with them in 2025.
The transfer window opens on June 15.
Back in March, England’s head coach Thomas Tuchel explained why he wants Spence in the national team even though Spurs have struggled.
“He was excellent every time he played for us,” Tuchel said. “He’s had three different coaches at his club and isn’t getting many minutes now. He loves defending, is the fastest player in our squad, and enjoys one-on-one defending. That makes him a special full-back for us. He can play on both sides.
“Before March, we said: ‘If you don’t get minutes at Spurs, you’ll need to prove yourself here again.’”
Spence has played five times for England, all under Tuchel’s coaching.
