Hull fans go wild after stadium news meant for Man Utd supporters
Hull City had a fantastic start to their Premier League comeback, beating Manchester United 2-0 at home. Goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy made sure the Tigers’ fans left happy, celebrating their team’s very first Premier League win against the Red Devils.
Michael Carrick will have a lot to think about this week as his team gets ready to face Ipswich Town. This loss also meant United matched an unwanted record—they’ve now lost their opening league match for two seasons in a row, something they last did back in the early 1970s, before getting relegated. Fans of the three-time Champions League winners will be hoping their team doesn’t face the same fate this season.
Things didn’t get better for United’s fans during the game. In the 73rd minute, the announcer at MKM Stadium said that trains from Hull to Manchester had been cancelled, making the trip home even harder for the visiting supporters. The Hull fans, on the other hand, cheered loudly at the news, happily teasing their rivals after a tough day for Carrick’s side.
This win also improved Hull’s record on opening days in the Premier League—they’ve now won four of their last six first matches, with only Manchester United and Blackpool having a better win rate in openers.
Now, Hull will focus on their Carabao Cup game against Stoke City on Tuesday, before aiming to build on this strong start when they visit the reigning Championship winners, Coventry City, in the next Premier League match.
