Jannik Sinner catches up with Carlos Alcaraz after breaking an amazing record at the Madrid Open.
Jannik Sinner has matched Carlos Alcaraz in tennis history after winning the Madrid Open — and he also set an amazing new record.
The ATP world number one beat Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 in the Madrid final on Sunday, racing to a 5-0 lead in the first set in just 17 minutes.
This is his fourth ATP title of 2026, after wins at Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo.
His latest win is great prep for the French Open, the second big Grand Slam of the year, starting May 18.
Alcaraz has sadly pulled out of the French Open with a wrist injury, giving Sinner an even bigger chance to win the one major title he hasn’t claimed yet.
With his Madrid win, Sinner now has 15 “Big Titles” — which includes Grand Slams, ATP Finals, Masters 1000 titles, or Olympic gold medals — tying him with Alcaraz.
Alcaraz’s last big win was in January at the Australian Open.
Since Alcaraz will miss the whole clay court season because of his injury, Sinner has a great chance to pull ahead of his biggest rival.
On top of that, Sinner is now the first player ever to win five Masters 1000 titles in a row.
He’s won all four Masters tournaments so far this year, plus the Paris Masters last November.
He also took home the ATP Finals title in December after beating Alcaraz in the final.
Many will be hoping Sinner has an off-day at Roland-Garros because he’s been nearly unstoppable this year.
Zverev, after losing the Madrid final, said, “Honestly, most people have no chance against you right now — including us.
And to your team, you all are doing an amazing job every week. Maybe take a break at the French Open!”
