Jannik Sinner responds to Carlos Alcaraz pulling out of the French Open after a concerning claim was made.
Jannik Sinner has shared his thoughts after Carlos Alcaraz announced he’s pulling out of the upcoming French Open because of a wrist injury. The Italian player made a concerned comment about his rival.
On Friday, April 24, world No. 2 Alcaraz said he won’t be playing at Roland Garros due to an ongoing wrist problem. The Spanish champ had to leave last week’s Barcelona Open after getting hurt in the first round.
The 22-year-old also skipped the current Madrid Open and confirmed he’ll miss both the Italian Open and the French Open.
“After today’s tests, we’ve decided it’s best to be careful and skip Rome and Roland Garros while we figure out when I can get back out there,” Alcaraz wrote on Instagram. “It’s a tough moment, but I’m sure I’ll come back stronger.”
With Alcaraz out, world No. 1 Sinner is now the clear favorite to win the second Grand Slam of 2026. World No. 3 Alexander Zverev and experienced Novak Djokovic are also hopeful. Djokovic has had his own injury problems but said earlier this week he hopes to be ready for the French Open.
Unless anything unexpected happens, Sinner will play at the tournament. He also shared his thoughts on Alcaraz’s injury.
“Tennis really needs Carlos,” Sinner said. “The sport is much better with him around. But he’s young and going through a tough time, and injuries can happen. I believe he’ll come back stronger. Injuries, especially in the wrist, are always tough.”
He added, “Certain parts of our body are very sensitive. The wrist can be tricky; we’ve seen that with other players before. I hope he recovers fully and stays injury-free.”
When asked how long Alcaraz might be out, Sinner said, “Coming back too soon can cause bigger problems. We all want him at his best when he returns. Hopefully, his next goal will be Wimbledon, and I hope to see him there.”
He finished by sending Alcaraz his “best wishes for a fast recovery. It’s really sad for all of tennis.”
Sinner has a chance to complete his career Grand Slam by winning the French Open, which starts on May 18.
