Jose Mourinho tells Kylian Mbappe what he needs to improve at Real Madrid, even after his amazing hat-trick against Real Sociedad.
Jose Mourinho has said he wants Kylian Mbappe to make a big change in his game, even though Mbappe scored three goals to help Real Madrid win 4-1 against Real Sociedad.
On Wednesday (August 26), Mourinho led his first home game since coming back to Real Madrid. He had already helped the team win their first match 2-1 against Espanyol last weekend.
Mbappe scored the first goal at the 40th minute by outsmarting the Sociedad goalkeeper, Alex Remiro. But just four minutes later, Luka Sucic scored to even the game for Sociedad.
After halftime, Mbappe scored again, thanks to a great pass from Jude Bellingham. Bellingham then set up Vinicius Junior for another goal, putting Madrid ahead 3-1 with about 20 minutes left. Mbappe finished his hat-trick with a smart chip pass from Vinicius Jr., making it 4-1 and ending the game strong for Mourinho’s team.
Even with Mbappe’s three goals and the win, Mourinho said in his post-match talk that he wants Mbappe to focus more on the team, not just scoring. When asked if Mbappe can score 60 goals this season, Mourinho said, “Kylian is an amazing player. Whether it’s 60, 50, or 40 goals, I don’t know. But I’d rather him have 40 goals and win titles than 60 goals without winning.”
He added, “I want him to work hard for the team and take responsibility, not just play for himself. He came back early for preseason, and that shows good attitude. I kept him on the field for all 90 minutes, hoping for four goals, but once Vinicius scored, I decided to take Mbappe off.”
When asked about some fans booing during the match, Mourinho said, “Fans can feel frustrated, and a few boos can actually help the team improve. Spanish teams like to play well and don’t just defend against big clubs. Both Espanyol and Sociedad played their best, and that’s something to respect.”
Real Madrid will play again at home against Malaga on Sunday (August 30).
