Fernando Hidalgo, the agent of Julian Alvarez, shared a revealing message on social media as rumors continue about the future of Atletico Madrid’s striker, who wants to leave. Alvarez has openly said he wants to move on this summer. While playing for Argentina in the World Cup this June, the 26-year-old said, “I talked with the people at Atletico, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to follow my dream.” He added, “It’s not the right time to talk about this, but I also can’t hide it. I try to be honest.”

Even though Alvarez wants to leave, Atletico isn’t keen on letting him go to Barcelona, a club linked with him for months. Instead, Arsenal seems to be leading the race. A report from Mundo Deportivo said on Thursday that Atletico is ready to talk about a transfer with Arsenal, who are willing to pay over £100 million. But Alvarez prefers to join Barcelona.

As this transfer story goes on, Atletico’s CEO, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, said on Friday that the club wants Alvarez to stay. Talking to EFE, Marin said, “Atletico Madrid is built with great players, and I’m sure Julian is one of them and a great professional. We want to compete by relying on our values, young players we grow, and the best players we bring in. We will support Julian to give his best because we need him to compete with Europe’s best. We also know he hasn’t had the best advice about his career in recent months.”

Marin added, “We can’t let other clubs and their media tell us what to do, decide our sports plans, or disrespect us. That’s what they’re trying to do – split us. We may not be as powerful, but we have strong values. Atletico fans won’t let anyone break us. Atleti is strong when we stand together.”

On Friday night, during Arsenal’s Premier League game against Coventry, Alvarez’s agent Fernando Hidalgo seemed to answer Marin’s words by posting a photo saying, “Never ask a liar why he lied. To explain it, he’d have to lie again.”

Alvarez seems set on joining Barcelona, but the move might be hard before the transfer window closes. ESPN reported that Barcelona have stopped chasing Alvarez this summer and are now looking at other strikers.
