Kimi Antonelli finds out the decision after being investigated for ‘erratic driving’ at the Barcelona Grand Prix.
Kimi Antonelli said sorry after getting in trouble for driving unpredictably at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
The 19-year-old was called over by the race officials after the last practice on Saturday because of something that happened with Lance Stroll.
With about 10 minutes left, Antonelli started his first fast lap on fresh soft tires. As he raced into Turn 1, he found Stroll in front of him.
Antonelli had to slow down to get past Stroll. Then, in the next corner, he braked suddenly in front of him, forcing Stroll to slow down to avoid a crash. Frustrated, Antonelli said over the team radio, “Oh my god, Stroll, as always!”
After the session, Antonelli was officially charged with erratic driving. He admitted it and apologized. This was his first warning of the race season before Race 7 this weekend.
The officials said they watched videos and talked to Antonelli and the teams. They found that Antonelli’s sudden braking in front of Stroll was unsafe. Antonelli said he acted out of frustration and was sorry.
In that last practice session, George Russell was the fastest, ahead of Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc. Antonelli finished seventh because he couldn’t get a clean lap, running into traffic on both his attempts. Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton took fourth and fifth, with Max Verstappen sixth.
