Liverpool welcomes back midfielder four years after he left, reuniting him with his brother.

Liverpool have just announced they’ve signed Hungarian midfielder Patrik Farkas, four years after he first left the club to join Blackburn Rovers. The 19-year-old has been registered with Liverpool’s U21 team after impressing during a long trial over the summer.

Farkas was on the bench for the U21s in their 1-0 away loss to West Ham on Monday—his first time in the squad since coming back to Anfield earlier this month.

Liverpool have made the deal official, and Farkas will be hoping this time goes better than his previous spell. He first joined Liverpool from Hungarian club Kecskeméti TE in 2021 but stayed only one season before moving to Blackburn.

While at Blackburn, he went on loan to local teams City of Liverpool FC and Prescot Cables. After his contract ended last season, he took the chance to trial with Liverpool again this summer. His younger brother Erik is currently with Liverpool’s U18s, which made the return even more special.

Though he didn’t play on Monday, the versatile midfielder is expected to get chances this season under manager Rob Page. While it’s unlikely he’ll join the first team right away, his strong work ethic and flexibility already make him an important player for the U21s.

Farkas was officially introduced as a Liverpool player on Tuesday, where he’ll team up with his brother in the youth squads. After signing, he said, “It’s a dream come true to sign here. I’m really happy and excited to get started. I enjoy being back at Liverpool. There are some new faces, but it’s great to meet everyone and catch up with old friends too.

“I’m a technical, box-to-box player who can play in several positions and try to make things happen. The coaches have told me to be confident, get playing, and show what I can do. From there, anything’s possible. I just need to work hard and take the next step.”

About playing with his brother, he said, “We’ve always played together since I was four. We push each other—that’s the goal—and that’s how we improve.”
