Manchester United have struggled to win in the Premier League lately, failing to get a win in six of their last seven games under Michael Carrick this season. Their game against Leeds at Elland Road wasn’t their best, with Leeds looking stronger for most of the match.

Fans have been frustrated, especially online, and while some have been critical of certain players, most blame Carrick’s tactics rather than the individuals on the field.

Carrick has had a tough time managing Manchester United this year, with only two wins in the first 10 games across all competitions. This latest draw has left fans worried as the team’s chances of winning the Premier League are fading, and even qualifying for the Champions League next season feels uncertain under his leadership.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke seemed to get the better of Carrick in this match, keeping his unbeaten record against him. United also faced some injury troubles, including Lisandro Martinez leaving the game at halftime. Carrick brought on Noussair Mazraoui to replace Martinez, but interestingly, Mazraoui played at centre back instead of left back, even though Leny Yoro, who usually plays there, stayed at right back. Fans online thought this was strange, especially since Diogo Dalot was playing out of position on the left side when he’s typically more comfortable on the right.

This lineup choice had fans questioning Carrick’s decisions during the game, with many now calling for him to be replaced. Some were confused why Carrick started with four central midfielders, which seemed to limit United’s attacks from wide areas.

Many believe Carrick is out of his depth despite his strong run last season when he helped the club finish third and qualify for the Champions League as interim manager. Now, as pressure builds, fans are already speculating about who could take over.

On social media, fans shared their frustration. One wrote, “Carrick so clueless, why did Yoro not return as CB, Dalot RB and Mazraoui LB?” Another said, “What is Carrick doing? Yoro at RB, Mazraoui at CB, Dalot at LB. We need a goal, but he brings in Mount while Rashford and Cunha sit on the bench. He’s out of his depth.” Another fan asked, “Can someone explain the genius behind playing Yoro at RB, Dalot at LB, and Mazraoui at CB?”

As Carrick continues to struggle in his role, talk about his replacement is growing. Many fans on X (formerly Twitter) have suggested Antonio Conte, who could return to the Premier League for a third time after managing Chelsea and Tottenham. Others have mentioned Eddie Howe, who did great work at Newcastle, leading them to the Champions League. There’s even some support for former Man United coach Kieran McKenna, who has been doing well with Ipswich Town.

The pressure is definitely on as the club looks for the right path forward.
