Man Utd put three players up for transfer right after signing Ederson

Manchester United have agreed to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta for £35 million, and they’re now ready to let three first-team players go. After a strong second half of the 2025/26 season under Michael Carrick, where they finished third and secured Champions League football, the team is already getting ready for next season.

Following the 2024/25 season, a few players left the club either permanently or on loan. Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelöf were the first to depart. Later in the summer, important players like Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford also moved on.

On the bright side, new signings such as Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens, Benjamin Sesko, and Bryan Mbeumo made a real impact during the 2025/26 campaign.

Ederson, 26, is set to join on a four-year deal and is expected to start training with the team in early July. He’s seen as the perfect replacement for Casemiro, who will leave when his contract ends this month.

Ederson’s arrival might mean that Manuel Ugarte, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.5 million in 2024 but had a quiet season with no goals or assists in 24 games, could be on his way out after just two years.

Goalkeeper André Onana, who played last season on loan at Trabzonspor, is also expected to leave after losing his spot to Lammens. However, his fairly high weekly salary of £120,000 (which may rise due to Champions League qualification) might make it tricky to find a new club.

United also want to sell forward Joshua Zirkzee, who has struggled to shine since joining from Bologna for £36.5 million in 2024.

As for new signings, United are interested in adding two midfielders, a left winger, a left-back, and possibly a striker and a centre-back to strengthen the squad.

Michael Carrick called this transfer window “the most important” ever for the club. He said, “Every transfer window feels huge, but this one is especially crucial for where we are as a club. We want to keep improving, and with some players leaving, there’s definitely work to do. It’s not more important than before, just focused on what’s ahead and making the most of our opportunities.”
