Piers Morgan finally speaks out about how he made it onto the pitch for Arsenal’s Premier League trophy celebration.

Piers Morgan shared how he got the chance to be at Selhurst Park for Arsenal’s big Premier League trophy celebration on Sunday.

Arsenal won their first Premier League title in 22 years after Manchester City couldn’t get a win at Bournemouth. They sealed the championship with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, finishing seven points ahead of City. Martin Odegaard proudly lifted the trophy for Arsenal’s 14th English top-flight title.

After a short delay and switching into their home shirts following Oliver Glasner’s last game with Palace, Mikel Arteta’s team was soon having a blast on the pitch near their traveling fans.

Morgan, a lifelong Arsenal fan, and his sons got on the pitch, snapping photos with players and Arteta. He even got Declan Rice to put his Premier League winner’s medal around his neck for a picture.

This caused quite a buzz since Morgan has often been critical of Arteta in the past. People on social media had strong opinions, and Morgan explained he honestly bought hospitality tickets back in March and was later invited pitch-side for the trophy lift.

He wrote: “Thanks Darren. To be clear, on March 4, I paid full price (£750 + VAT each) for 4 tickets to Palace’s 2010 Club hospitality suite. Then we were invited into the boardroom and given the chance to go pitch-side for the trophy lift. We feel very lucky. Thanks @CPFC.”

When another Arsenal fan said Morgan was just using his money to get in, he replied: “The tickets I bought were available to anyone, and I paid full price. I also pay full price for 4 season tickets, go to every Arsenal game when I’m in England, and watch every game when abroad. Doesn’t that make me a real fan?”

About the photo with Rice and the medal, Morgan said Rice was the one who offered to put it around his neck, not Morgan asking for it. He added, “I didn’t pay Declan to run over and give me his winner’s medal for a souvenir pic, but I was thrilled he did.”

Arsenal players and fans celebrated late into the night at the Emirates Stadium. The club has also planned a historic parade in Islington on Sunday, May 31, the day after the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain. The parade will happen no matter what, even if Arsenal wins Europe’s top trophy for the first time.
