Raheem Sterling, the former Manchester City and Chelsea star, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after crashing his car.

The Sun reported that Hampshire Police stopped Sterling on Thursday morning after his Lamborghini hit the motorway barriers near the Minley Interchange on the M3.

He was taken into custody over concerns of driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, possession of a Class C drug, and failing to provide a sample for testing.

The crash happened around 9 a.m., and Sterling was later released on bail while the police continue their investigation.

Hampshire Police said: “Just before 9 a.m. on Thursday, we got reports that a Lamborghini crashed into barriers on the M3 southbound near Minley Interchange. No other cars were involved, and nobody was hurt. The driver, a 31-year-old man from Berkshire, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, dangerous driving, drug possession, and failing to give a sample. He’s now been bailed while we look into it further.”

In the UK, Class C drugs include things like nitrous oxide, GHB, some tranquilisers like valium, and steroids. There’s no word yet on what exact substance Sterling is suspected to have had.

Sterling first became famous as a rising star with Liverpool when he was just 17. He won four Premier League titles with Manchester City after moving there for £49 million in 2015. In 2022, he moved to Chelsea after feeling unhappy with his playing time and spent some time on loan at Arsenal during the 2024/25 season.

With 123 Premier League goals under his belt, Sterling found himself sidelined at Chelsea and eventually had his contract ended by mutual agreement in January after training alone for a while.

After that, he signed a short-term deal with Dutch club Feyenoord, appearing eight times but without scoring, as the team finished second behind PSV Eindhoven.

He has played for England 82 times, scored 20 goals, and appeared at major tournaments, but hasn’t played since the 2022 World Cup quarter-final loss to France.

Sterling’s contract with Feyenoord ended at the close of the 2025/26 season, and it’s not clear if he’ll stay on at the club. SPORTbible has reached out to Hampshire Police for a comment.
